Who We Are
UNIFOR Local 636 is located in Woodstock, Ontario and represents 1300 workers in 19 units.
Our members work in agriculture, auto parts, small manufacturing, cement production and health care. The local was formed in 1944 as UAW Local 636. Over the decades the local's roots have been firmly entrenched in the Woodstock region. It has grown to become a major stakeholder in the community, bargaining dozens and dozens of collective agreements and working with other local organizations to build a stronger community.
Local 636 has been the training ground for many labour leaders who excelled to the national level. They include Brother Bob White, who went on to become CAW national president and then Canadian Labour Congress president, as well as Al Seymour, Noel Stoodley and Frank Kenny.
